Kambalapatti - Pollachi Kenderyiamman (Kendukattamman)

Even as times change... the culture... and traditions... of the Kambala community remain unchanged. The Kambalapatti - Pollachi Kenderyiamman (Kendukattamman) Temple Festival is a testament to this. This three-day festival is a unique event that showcases the community's rich heritage and traditions.

The Kambala community, has been observing this festival for centuries. The community's ancestors migrated from the northern regions of India, specifically from the Pallari and Devakiri areas, to escape the Mughal invasions.

The festival is dedicated to the worship of Kenderyiamman, a deity revered by the community. The festivities begin with the ritual of seeking the deity's permission, which is obtained through a traditional ritual involving the playing of the 'Pulalanguzhal' (a type of flute).
The highlight of the festival is the re-enactment of the community's migration from the north. The devotees, dressed in traditional attire, carry the deity's idol on their shoulders and proceed to the riverbank, where they symbolically cross the river using a makeshift bridge made of punga trees.
The festival is a celebration of the community's rich cultural heritage and its traditions. It is a testament to the community's resilience and its ability to preserve its customs and traditions despite the passage of time.
The festival is organized by the Kambala community, with the support of the local administration and other stakeholders. It is a significant event in the cultural calendar of the region and attracts devotees and tourists from all over.
